OUR MISSION Youth Empowerment International (YEI) exists to promote the health, education, cultural and professional development of low-income children, youth and families worldwide, especially in Africa through comprehensive support services. VISION Our vision is to make YEI the model for providing innovative and comprehensive support for youth and for instilling in youth the skills which will make them financially independent. To build a bridge between the rich and the poor, the developed and under developed countries and finally, to help create a better world where true peace and value excel. VALUES The values we embrace are: WHO WE ARE - YEI was born as a child of need based upon the founder’s 17 years of experience as the Chairman of the Alaba International Modern Market Association, the Alaba Amalgamated Traders Association (The Pride of Africa) and as a Patron of Ikenga Student Union Association.
- In 1988, the founder established the Ikenga Youth Solidarity Front, a precursor of YEI, which provided seminars and symposiums to raise awareness about contemporary issues facing youth in their communities.
- During these years, the founder realized that too many young people in Nigeria have lost hope and have no vision for their future.
- Rather than continue to provide individual scholarships to youth of families in need, the founder realized that a more comprehensive approach was needed. He became determined to develop a program which would encourage more youth to expand and live their dreams.
-
In 2006, YEI was registered with the California Secretary of State as a non-profit corporation in the USA. It also received formal approval from the Internal Revenue Service as a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization. - YEI provides comprehensive support and services which promote the health, educational, cultural, sports and professional development of low-income youth and families worldwide, especially in Africa.
- We are comprised of all volunteers with minimal overhead and leverage our scarce resources through the use of partnerships, in-kind donations and contributions.
OUR MODEL -
Our model is to establish programs which will provide youth the skills and support they need to reach their career goals. -
We partner with schools and training institutions to assure that youth are academically prepared and oriented about the programs and services provided by Youth Empowerment International. -
We partner with the community to ensure that youth who need the services are reached and referred to our programs. -
We partner with businesses to exchange knowledge and information about the skills and training which are needed for their labor force and to increase their global network distribution. -
We raise awareness about social and community issues. We also provide support for activities and programs which promote health and welfare, education, sports and the arts. -
We believe in “strength in numbers” and partner and collaborate with organizations to leverage and pool resources, raise awareness and conduct fundraising. -
Beginning in 2007, we will begin to accept applications from youth who desire to enroll in our programs. -
Our goal is to organize and coordinate 1-3 fundraising events per year to support our program activities. |
